N.L. truck driver to stand trial in N.S. for leaving scene of fatal accident

A Newfoundland truck driver has been committed to stand trial on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident accident in Cape Breton last year.

A charge of criminal negligence causing death against Gerald Rowsell, 43, of Botwood was dismissed Monday in court in Sydney. Anne Margaret Knockwood of Indian Brook, N.S., was run over by an 18-wheeler in Millville.

Rowsell has been ordered to appear in court in Sydney on Dec. 5 to receive a trial date.

He also faces a charge of obstruction for allegedly giving a false statement to police.
