Excavator-Piece Of Digging Equipment

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

In civil engineering and surface mining heavy construction equipment are used. An excavator, also called a 360-degree excavator or digger, sometimes abbreviated simply to a 360, is an engineering vehicle consisting of a backhoe and cab mounted on a pivot (turntable is a more apt description) atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. The term excavator is sometimes used as a general term for any piece of digging equipment.

Roles of Excavators

Excavators are used in many roles:

1- Digging of trenches, holes, foundations
2- Demolition
3- General grading/landscaping
4- Heavy lift, e.g. lifting and placing of pipes
5- River dredging
6- Mining, especially, but not only open-pit mining
7- Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments

Varieties of Excavators

Excavators come in a wide variety of sizes. The smaller ones are called a mini-excavator or compact excavator. One manufacturer’s largest model weighs 84,980 kg (187,360 lb) and has a maximum bucket size of 4.5 m³ (5.9 yd³). The same manufacturer’s smallest mini-excavator weighs 1470 kg (3240 lb), has a maximum bucket size of 0.036 m³ (0.048 yd³) and the width of its tracks can be adjusted to 89 cm (35 inches). Another company makes a mini excavator that will fit through a doorway with tracks that can be adjusted to only 70 cm (28 inches) wide. Excavators for sale comes with wide variety like;

1- Compact excavator

A compact hydraulic excavator is a tracked or wheeled vehicle with an approximate operating weight of 6 metric tons (13,228 lbs). It generally includes a standard backfill blade and features independent boom swing. The compact hydraulic excavator is also referred to as a mini excavator.

The compact hydraulic excavator is somewhat unique from other construction equipment in that all movement and functions of the machine are accomplished through the transfer of hydraulic fluid. The compact excavator’s work group and blade are activated by hydraulic fluid acting upon hydraulic cylinders. The excavator’s slew (rotation) and travel functions are also activated by hydraulic fluid powering hydraulic motors.

2- Dragline excavator

Dragline excavation systems are heavy equipment used in civil engineering and surface mining. In civil engineering the smaller types are used for road and port construction. The larger types are used in strip-mining operations to extract coal and these are amongst the largest mobile equipment (not water-borne), and weigh in the vinicity of 2000 metric tonnes, though specimens weighing up to 13,000 metric tonnes have also been constructed.

A dragline bucket system consists of a large bucket which is suspended from a boom (a large truss like structure). The bucket is maneuvered by means of a number of ropes and chains. The hoistrope, powered by large diesel or electric motors, supports the bucket and hoist-coupler assembly from the boom. The dragrope is used to draw the bucket assembly horizontally. By skillful maneuver of the hoist and the dragropes the bucket is controlled for various operations.

3- Bucket-wheel excavator

Bucket-wheel excavators are heavy equipment used in surface mining and civil engineering. The excavation component itself is a large rotating wheel mounted on an arm or boom. On the outer edge of the wheel is a series of scoops or buckets. As the wheel turns, the buckets remove soil or rock from the target area and carry it around to the backside of the wheel, where it falls onto a conveyor, which carries it up the arm toward the main body of the excavator. Additional conveyors then may carry it further; in some cases, several long conveyors are placed end-to-end, each supported by a large vehicular base.

Especially large bucket-wheel excavators, over 200 meters long and up to 100 meters in height, are used in German strip-mining operations, and are the largest earth-movers in the world. These tremendous machines can cost over $100 million, take 5 years to assemble, require 5 people to operate, weigh more than 13,000 tons, and have a theoretical capacity of more than 12,000m³/h. Specifically, the RB293 bucket wheel excavator manufactured by MAN Takraf is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest land vehicle.

Chose The Best limousines For Corporate event

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

A stretch limousine is a great way to seal that all important deal or wow potential clients at a corporate event. This is particularly true of limo hire London and limo hire Surrey where corporate events are very common. Black seems to be the colour of choice for a corporate event and for a small party the presidential black Lincoln Town Car is the most popular limousine. For larger parties either the black Audi Q7 limousine or black Hummer H2 limo is quite often chosen to represent the business.

Limousines are a declaration of wealth and prestige and allow potential clients and very important persons to ascertain whether their business is right for a particular company. With the added extra of complimentary bubbly/champagne included in the hire this could be a further reason for the client to put his/her business with the company. Corporate events involving limousines include trips to lavish hotels and restaurants, airport transfers, race day meetings, football matches and many more. In fact anything that impresses a potential customer or business partner is worthwhile.

Corporate events in Limousines can also be used for the actual employees, hired by the company director as a way to say thank you for all their hard work throughout the year. It may be for the office Christmas party or for the top performers in the company. Whatever the reason, a limousine is a great way to show appreciation to the staff of the company and to keep their loyalty.

The type of limousine for sale can be chosen for corporate events is very important in creating the right impression and atmosphere. Themed limousines such as the fire engine limousine or the Party Bus limousine are not really appropriate for corporate events and are rarely if ever used. As previously mentioned the most popular limousine for corporate events has to be the traditional Lincoln Town Car limousine, usually in black. More recently the Chrysler C300 Baby Bentley limousine has become a very popular choice for corporate events. This is undoubtedly because of the stretch Chrysler C300’s resemblance to a Bentley road car and therefore will give off an air of class, style and elegance. These limousines typically seat up to 8 people so for larger parties a 4×4 limousine will be needed. The Hummer H2 limousine, Jeep Excursion limousine or Lincoln Navigator limousine are the stretched cars of choice for corporate events probably more so than the Range Rover limousine or Porsche Cayenne limousines as they tend to be a bit more conservative.

The colour of the limousine chosen for a corporate event is also very important in sealing that deal. Something garish or too bright such as pink or yellow is not really appropriate and is likely to put customer off. So neutral colours such as black or white are the most popular choices with silver a close second.

If the above rules are adhered to then your corporate event or office party will be a major success, deals will be sealed and your staff will love you.

Why Not Buy A Hatchback Car?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

When you go looking for your new car, you may have a lot of choices that you will have to pick from. What one are you going to pick? Why not a hatchback!

When you look at hatchback, you may notice that they are all very different. Some of these cars, you may not even realize that they are hatchbacks at all. There are sport cars that have hatchbacks as well as compact cars that have the hatch added on as an auto part. So you may have had a hatchback and not even have known it.

The sport cars that have a hatchback, are the ones that you may notice going down the street. These are normally cars that have an open back with a door that raises up so that you can get into the back of the car. Sport cars will more commonly have these hatchbacks and you will need to know what auto parts to get with these cars is you are going to buy one. There is also a great frustration of these hatchbacks breaking because some one throws a stray rock or other item.

You may also see these hatchbacks on cars that are a little more compact in nature. These are usually added to give the smaller car a little more room for storage and bringing home your groceries. These hatchbacks are also great for giving the car a little more of a look instead of it just looking like a bubble driving around town. You may find these cars in many different places and they can be used or new depending on what you want to pay for the car in the long run. You may also find these cars are a little better on your wallet than the sport cars mentioned above.

The difference between what you paid for your car and what it is now worth can be substantial. The MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) for a 2007 Ford Focus two-door hatchback is $14,335. The resale value for the same car is $11,995. The value has dropped about $2,300 just for driving the car off the lot.

Buying a new car therefore means that you are getting more debt and losing value more quickly than if you had bought a used car for sale. You’ll also be paying more for car insurance than you would if you had bought a used vehicle.

There are many ways that a hatchback car for sale can be good for you and what you are doing. You may not have even really thought about it or the auto parts that you may be saving, but you really might want to consider it. These cars are great for people that want a smaller car, but still want to have a great looking car. Take some time to research the cars that you are looking into, so that you can find the one that is right for you and what you plan to do with your car.

2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid & GMC Sierra Hybrid Trucks

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Chevrolet unveiled its new hybrid chevrolet Silverado truck at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, and showed us the Sierra hybrid a few months later. Let’s take a quick look at both hybrid trucks before we get into the specifics:

* GM’s hybrid trucks will be available as Crew Cabs; choose either 2WD or 4WD

* Look for a 40-percent gain in city fuel economy and a 25-percent gain overall (when compared to a conventional Silverado or Sierra); cruising range is more than 500 miles

* The trucks are equipped with GM’s 2-Mode Hybrid system

* Both trucks have a 6-liter V-8 engine with Active Fuel Management and late-intake valve closing technology

* Capable of all-electric drive up to 30 miles per hour

* Towing capacity of 6,100 pounds for the 2WD truck

* The only (as of November, 2007) full-size hybrid pickup truck; goes on sale in late 2008 as a 2009 model (update: first half of 2009)

Hybrid Truck Drivetrain
The trucks are equipped with GM’s 2-Mode Hybrid System:

An electronic variable transmission (EVT) allows infinitely variable gearing when it’s advantageous for a truck’s efficiency, but automatically changes modes to act as a conventional transmission (with four fixed gear ratios) when necessary, typically when you’re driving at higher speeds or have increased hauling needs.

The trucks’ Hybrid Optimizing System (HOS) constantly sends information to the EVT, optimizing transmission operations for best performance and economy.

The Energy storage system (ESS) is a 300-volt battery that’s located in the chassis, underneath a truck’s rear seats. It provides power to the EVT and stores the energy it captures during deceleration, when braking, and when the system converts one of the truck’s two electric motors into a generator.

The ESS powers the A/C compressor and the Accessory Power Module (APM), which in turn feeds the truck’s 42-volt power steering system, its 12 volt battery and other 12-volt systems.

The big battery is cooled by a system that draws air from within the passenger compartment. It has an 8-year / 100,00 mile warranty, and GM says the ESS has safety features to keep it from over-charging, over-heating, being penetrated by liquids, and from accidental access to its components.

The 6.0L V-8 engine runs on regular gas and the engine is equipped with an Active Fuel Management (AFM) system. A computer controlled late-intake valve closing (LIVC) feature lets the truck run on 4 or 8 cylinders, whichever offers the best performance and economy for the job.

GM doesn’t have official EPA ratings for the hybrid truck yet, but based on their own tests and the new Tahoe’s ratings, the company expects a 40 percent increase in city fuel economy when compared to a similar conventional Silverado. (update: see ratings in my First Impressions Road Test
