Police are urging motorists to drive more carefully following a chain of accidents in the vicinity of the Art Knapp’s nursery on Highway 97 South that involved a total of nine vehicles.

Police were already on the scene of a three-vehicle collision shortly before 9 a.m. when another two-vehicle mishap occurred on the northbound side, about 50 metres away, followed by two more two-vehicle rear-enders.
The series began with a pickup truck pulling a large trailer jacknifed and  went into the ditch. A smaller pickup truck was rear-ended by a larger commercial truck as the driver had stopped to help.

Car has top sheared off in crash

A Myrtle Creek woman is lucky to be alive after crashing under a semi trailer Tuesday night.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies say 35-year-old Renae Wilson was heading eastbound through the construction zone on the overpass at the Tri City interchange, when a semi pulled out from the northbound off-ramp to go over the bridge.

Wilson apparently never saw the truck in time to even slow down, and crashed under the trailer.

The impact sheared off the top of the Toyota Camry, and bent the back axles of the trailer.

Wilson had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life by the Tri City Fire Department, but amazingly, the woman survived the crash, although police say she had several injuries. However, none appeared to be life threatening.

The truck driver, driving for Trucking Company Inc, from San Bernardino, California, was not injured.

Knightsen woman likely run over by her own truck

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

A 22-year-old woman found dead in rural Knightsen died from blunt force chest injuries, likely caused when her own truck ran over her, a sheriff’s official said today.

The woman, who remains unidentified pending notification of family, was found by neighbors shortly the 1700 block of Green Acres Lane, said Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. It appears she may have been dead for “several days,” he said.

Sheriff’s deputies found the woman’s Ford pick-up truck, which was towing a horse trailer, crashed into a shed on her property. The woman’s body lay about five feet from the truck, Lee said.

“Everything’s pointed to some sort of accident with the car … but it’s definitely not a homicide,” Lee said. “It appears she was accidentally run over by that vehicle.

“There’s still a lot of unanswered questions and there’s still things we’re following up on,” he said.
