Man dies in two-vehicle crash on Highway 103 in East River, N.S.

A crash near East River, N.S., has left one person dead and another in hospital with severe injuries.

RCMP say a car and a pickup truck collided early Saturday on the 103. The car driver remains in hospital in Halifax with severe injuries. The driver of the truck is dead.

Road and weather conditions were good at the time and the injured were wearing seatbelts.

Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor.

Fire erupts in garages on Highway 75

Heavy smoke poured from several adjoining storage garages as fire fighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Larry Nelson, of Sergeant Bluff, who rents one of the garages, said he pulled his semi out of his garage just minutes before the fire started. Nelson, who drives for Johnson Feed, Inc. (JFI) of Canton, S.D., said he was supposed to be driving a load down from Sioux City to Laredo, Texas.

“Ten minutes later and I wouldn’t have had my truck,” Nelson said.

Nelson said fire fighters would not allow him to get close to his garage, so he said he does not know the extent of the damage. He said his garage contained four stand-up tool boxes and typical tools needed to maintain an owner-operated truck.

Woman killed in accident on Ga. 247

A woman was killed Monday in a crash with a semi truck on Ga. 247 two miles south of Bonaire, a sheriff’s traffic investigator said.

Jo Campbell, 69, of Kathleen, who was riding in the passenger seat of a 1996 Ford F-150 pickup truck, died from injuries sustained accident at Ga. 247 and Wheelus Road, said Houston County Cpl. Sean Alexander.

She was pronounced dead at Perry Hospital, the traffic investigator said.

Lynn McCall, 69, of Kathleen, the pickup’s driver, was in critical but stable condition Monday afternoon and is expected to survive, Alexander said.

A 1990 Volvo semi, which was not pulling a trailer, was headed southbound on Ga. 247. The driver, Kenneth Taylor, 62, of Macon, told traffic investigators that he came up on a slow-moving vehicle ahead of him and slammed his brakes.

Pair Arrested After Crashing Stolen Truck Into Apartment

Aurora police say a 16-year-old driver who crashed into an apartment building will be held on charges of felony eluding and second-degree motor vehicle theft.

Police say the teen, whose name wasn’t released, was driving a pickup reported stolen Friday from Denver.

Police say that when an officer signaled for the driver to pull over Saturday morning, the truck kept going.

The driver missed a turn and drove into an apartment building. No residents were injured.

Police say the teen and an adult passenger were treated at a hospital for minor injuries. Police say the adult passenger did not immediately face any charges.

Tata Motors to roll out 6 new products in truck range

After sluggish growth in the first half of this fiscal, Tata Motors has planned the biggest ever rollout of its heavy commercial vehicle range to rev up sales.

Tata Motors is in the process of rolling out half-a-dozen new products over the next couple of months. It will foray into the fast growing 49-tonne tractor-trailer segment by launching next generation trucks that will come from its fully-owned Korean subsidiary, Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles. These heavy duty vehicles will sport, for the first time in India, a 10-speed gear box and inverted bogey suspension.

Tata Motors’ arch rival Ashok Leyland, the second-largest commercial vehicle maker in the country, has already launched a 49-tonne truck last week. Besides introducing the all-new 10-speed gear box technology, anti-lock brake system, air-conditioning, new-age suspensions and power steering, Tata Motors is planning many industry-first features in its truck range.

Woman killed in collision with truck named

Police have named a Mid-Canterbury woman who was killed when her car collided with a milk tanker this morning.

Margaret Anne Taylor, 50, of Mayfield, died at the scene of the crash at an intersection 17km west of Ashburton.

Senior Sergeant Arnold Kelly of Ashburton police said Ms Taylor, known as Anne, was the only occupant of her Nissan Primera car.

Mr Kelly said the police commercial vehicle investigation unit was investigating.

Semi, Car Accident On East Bound 894

A bad accident has occurred on 894 on Milwaukee’s south west side.

It happened in the east bound lanes of 894 near 84th Street.

Department of Transportation video shows a semi stopped in the inside lane and what appears to be a passenger car that may have hit the semi.

The truck and the car were apparently heading in the same direction when they sideswiped each other. The car spun and ended up pinned underneath the semi.

An adult female driver is the only passenger and she only suffered minor injuries. There were no injuries to the truck driver.

Traffic is backed up in the area and several ambulances are on the scene. Two lanes of 894 are still shut down Tuesday afternoon.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.

U.K. Truck Drivers Threaten to Block Refineries, BBC Says

Truck drivers have threatened to blockade oil refineries in protest at diesel prices in Wales that are the highest in the U.K., the British Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The South Wales Hauliers Association said drivers were considering action, the BBC said today.

Wales was also one of the top four most expensive regions for unleaded gasoline, the BBC said, citing the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ monthly report.

Ordinance may force truckers to find new parking

Semi-truck drivers that live in Rio Rancho may need to find a new place to park.

A city councilor is proposing an ordinance that would ban parking the big rigs in residential neighborhoods.

Margheritte Apodaca said that her husband parks their big rig on their property because there is no city law saying that they can’t.

Apodaca said that they bought two separate lots so they could build their house on one, and park their truck on the other.

But now they may have to find a new spot to park the truck, because a city councilor is proposing an ordinance that would ban commercial vehicles from parking in residential neighborhoods.

2 Hurt in West Allis Delivery Truck Crash

A delivery truck and two cars were involved in a serious accident in West Allis, according to the West Allis Fire Department.

Officials say two people were hurt in the crash. They were taken to Froedtert Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

West Allis police say the accident happened at 60th St. and Burnham St Saturday evening.

Very limited information is being released about the accident but according to witnesses, the area surrounding the crash is blocked off to traffic.
